Fun was had by all this past Sunday at The Center. Nora Garda presented Argentine Music and Dance. Thanks Carol Johnk for the pictures I am using below.
Nora, Yu-Hsin, Shanju, Takako, Lorelei, and Angie are seen here dancing to carnival music in a modern choreography using traditional dance steps/movements.

Perhaps the most fun was watching the youngest performers. Edith Barragan's ballet students joined the adults in the traditional Chacarera.

In addition to the fun, upbeat dances were some beautiful moves by Yu-Hsin and Takako.

Great for all ages!
The music and dance of Argentina are of a blend of European, African and native cultures and are unique in South America. While other areas of South America were colonized primarily by the Spanish and Portuguese, Argentina had a fairly large immigrant population from Italy, Poland, Germany, England and Ireland. Tango is the most famous dance from Argentina, but not the only one. Zamba, chacarera, gato, carnavalito, chamame, cueca are just a few of the popular ones. Not to mention "Rock Nacional"!

Made possible by InterDance-Nora Garda and the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center.

Gift certificates to Fun Day make a great Valentine's Day gift or just a gift of fun to someone you love.  I'll allow people to sign up for their massage time slot before the day of the the event, so let me know if I can sign you up.
